Tour de France 2026: Who Are the Favourites for Cycling’s Biggest Race?

With the 2026 Tour de France fast approaching, cycling fans are preparing for what could be one of the most exciting editions in recent years. The battle for the famous yellow jersey is shaping up to be a clash between some of the sport’s biggest stars, with several riders entering the race in outstanding form.

As things stand, Tadej Pogačar remains the overwhelming favourite. The Slovenian superstar has dominated professional cycling over the past few seasons and continues to win at an incredible rate. Already a multiple Tour de France champion, Pogačar has enjoyed another exceptional campaign in 2026 and arrives at the Tour looking stronger than ever. His ability to climb, time trial and attack on virtually any terrain makes him the complete rider and the man everyone else must beat.

Standing in his way is his greatest rival, Jonas Vingegaard. The Danish rider recently made history by winning the 2026 Giro d’Italia, completing victories in all three Grand Tours during his career. His dominant Giro performance showcased incredible climbing strength and endurance, setting up a mouthwatering showdown with Pogačar in July. If anyone can challenge the Slovenian over three weeks, it is Vingegaard.

Another major contender is Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian has long been regarded as one of cycling’s brightest talents and continues to improve as a Grand Tour rider. While questions remain about whether he can consistently match Pogačar and Vingegaard in the high mountains, his time-trialling ability and aggressive racing style make him a genuine threat.

Among the dark horses, Isaac del Toro is attracting plenty of attention. The young Mexican rider has enjoyed a breakout season, winning major races and proving he can compete with the sport’s elite. Whether he is given leadership responsibilities or works in support of Pogačar will be one of the biggest talking points before the race begins.

French sensation Paul Seixas is another rider to watch. Still only 19 years old, Seixas has already produced remarkable performances in 2026 and is being tipped as one of cycling’s future superstars. While a podium finish may be a stretch this year, his presence could provide some unforgettable moments.

The 2026 Tour de France route heavily favours the climbers, with multiple summit finishes and two visits to Alpe d’Huez expected to play a decisive role. Many experts believe this route suits Pogačar perfectly, although Vingegaard’s recent form suggests the battle for yellow could go down to the final week.

One thing is certain: the race for the yellow jersey promises to be spectacular.
