The first major of the year has arrived, with golfers set to compete at the 2023 Masters beginning on Thursday.

The 87th edition of the Masters Tournament tees off from Augusta National on April 6th. Five-time Masters champ Tiger Woods is a long shot at +8000.
Of all the tournaments on the pro golf schedule, the Masters might be the hardest for a long shot to pull off an unlikely victory. Course knowledge and experience are essential at Augusta National, as is a knack for winning against the game’s best under the sport’s most intense pressure.
But every once in a while a player comes out of nowhere to win the green jacket (see: Danny Willett, 2016; Trevor Immelman, 2008). Other times, a veteran pro elevates and cements his legacy with a career-defining victory (see: Sergio Garcia, 2017; Adam Scott 2013). This year, we think the player with the best chance for underdog glory is Tommy Fleetwood.
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2023 Masters: Jordan Spieth, a three-time major champion and one of the top favorites, struggles mightily at Augusta National and doesn’t even crack the top 12. Spieth has racked up 13 career victories on the PGA Tour, but he hasn’t won a major championship since 2017. The 29-year-old is often heralded as one of the best putters on tour, but he enters the 2023 Masters Tournament ranked 77th in strokes gained putting (.098) and 114th in total putting (241.4).
While the PGA Tour doesn’t allow members of the LIV golf tour to participate in their events, they are allowed to play in the four majors. There will be 18 members of the LIV golf tour participating in this year’s Masters. The top-ranked LIV golfer is Cam Smith, who finished in the top three at the Masters in each of the last two years. Smith is currently tied for the fifth-best odds at +2000. Veteran Brooks Koepka, who has some momentum after winning a LIV event in Orlando this weekend, is a four-time majors champion. His best finish at the Masters came in 2019 when he tied for second. Koepka is currently listed at +3300.
