McLaren Clinches Back-to-Back F1 Constructors’ Championship

McLaren has confirmed its status as the leading team in Formula 1 by securing its second consecutive constructors’ championship at the Singapore Grand Prix, bringing their total to ten titles in the team’s illustrious history. Sunday’s race saw Lando Norris finish on the podium, while drivers’ championship leader Oscar Piastri came in fourth. The result secured McLaren’s championship with six races still to go, highlighting their dominance this season. The team has already claimed twelve race victories in 2025, including seven 1-2 finishes, making the constructors’ crown a near formality since the August summer break.

While McLaren has not won a drivers’ championship since Lewis Hamilton’s maiden title in 2008, both Norris and Piastri are firmly in contention this year. After Singapore, Piastri leads Norris by 22 points in the drivers’ standings, with Max Verstappen a further 63 points behind in third place. This demonstrates McLaren’s ability not only to build the fastest cars but also to develop two championship-contending drivers.

McLaren’s turnaround in recent years is one of the most remarkable stories in modern Formula 1. When CEO Zak Brown took the helm in 2016, the team was struggling through a failing partnership with Honda and regularly failed to progress past the first qualifying session. Since then, the team has navigated engine partnerships, ultimately settling on a successful collaboration with Mercedes. The first sign of revival came at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, when McLaren claimed its first win in a decade.

Speaking after the Singapore Grand Prix, Zak Brown praised the collective effort of the team. “Pretty awesome. Unbelievable team here, unbelievable team back at the factory… it’s pretty awesome to go back-to-back—it’s been a while since we’ve done it,” he said. Team boss Andrea Stella also highlighted the teamwork involved: “It’s an incredible emotion. Even with six races to go, this success is thanks to the great work that has happened across McLaren.” Former Red Bull designer Rob Marshall has also played a key role in crafting the class-leading cars of the past two seasons.

Both Norris and Piastri are signed to long-term contracts, until at least 2027 and 2028 respectively, ensuring that McLaren’s momentum will continue in the coming years. With a combination of technical excellence, strategic brilliance, and strong driver performance, McLaren has not only reclaimed its position at the top of the grid but is also setting the stage for a sustained era of dominance in Formula 1.
