Farewell to the Grand Old Lady: Everton’s Final Bow at Goodison Park

This Sunday, May 18, 2025, marks the end of an era as Everton Football Club plays its final match at Goodison Park, their home since 1892. The historic stadium, affectionately known as “The Grand Old Lady,” will host its last Premier League game against Southampton before the club moves to the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock for the 2025–26 season.

Goodison Park has been the backdrop for numerous significant moments in football history, including hosting more top-flight games than any other stadium in England and serving as a venue for the 1966 FIFA World Cup. The stadium’s intimate atmosphere and rich heritage have made it a beloved site for Evertonians and football fans alike.

In anticipation of this emotional farewell, Everton has planned commemorative events to honor the stadium’s legacy. The club has applied for a special license to allow fans to remain in the stadium for 90 minutes after the final whistle, featuring music and film presentations to celebrate Goodison Park’s storied past.

As the team prepares to transition to their new 52,888-capacity home, the move signifies not just a change in venue but the beginning of a new chapter in Everton’s history. The new stadium is set to host matches for UEFA Euro 2028 and is expected to play a significant role in the regeneration of the Bramley-Moore Dock area.

Sunday’s match against Southampton offers a moment for reflection and celebration, honoring the memories forged at Goodison Park while looking ahead to the future of Everton Football Club.
