Rory McIlroy has commenced his 2025 PGA Tour season in spectacular fashion, clinching a two-shot victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Overcoming a competitive field that included Ryder Cup teammates Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, and Sepp Straka, McIlroy’s final-round 66 propelled him to a 21-under-par finish, securing his 27th PGA Tour title.
Reflecting on his performance, McIlroy expressed satisfaction with his current form, stating, “I feel like I controlled my ball flight well in the crosswinds this week. I drove the ball really well.” He acknowledged the perpetual pursuit of improvement but recognized the strength of his game at this juncture.
The final round saw McIlroy start just one stroke behind Straka. A pivotal moment occurred at the par-five 14th, where McIlroy delivered a remarkable eagle, extending his lead amidst a tightly contested leaderboard.
Emphasizing a strategic focus for the year, McIlroy highlighted his intent to minimize errors: “I’ve talked a lot about this year trying to limit the mistakes and trying to keep the big numbers and the destructive swings off the scorecard.” He noted that avoiding bogeys simplifies the game, allowing his consistent shot-making to create ample birdie opportunities.
This victory not only marks McIlroy’s second win in his last three global starts but also his sixth top-four finish in seven appearances, underscoring his exceptional form as he advances into the season.
As McIlroy continues to build momentum, the golf world keenly anticipates his upcoming performances, especially with the Masters on the horizon, where he aims to complete the career Grand Slam.
