Masters champion Jon Rahm confirms switch to LIV Golf

In a seismic move for the golfing world, Masters champion Jon Rahm has officially declared his allegiance to LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed breakaway tour. The announcement makes Rahm, currently the world’s No. 3, the latest major champion to join the controversial circuit after Brooks Koepka.

Rahm defended his decision in a press conference, citing it as the best choice for his family despite anticipating a mix of reactions. The 29-year-old expressed pride in contributing to the growth of the sport through LIV Golf and is set to sign a contract reportedly exceeding $300 million, spanning at least three years.

This move follows a trend, with other prominent players like Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau also lured away from the traditional PGA Tour. The potential impact on the agreement between PIF and the PGA Tour remains uncertain, with discussions ongoing and a deadline set for December 31.

The PGA Tour commissioner is slated to meet with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan in the coming week to address the evolving situation.
