Manchester City will face Manchester United in the final of this year’s FA Cup final at Wembley after they defeated Sheffield United and Brighton respectively in the last four.
City made it through to the showpiece with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday while United defeated Brighton on penalties on Sunday.
It’s one win apiece so far this season between the two clubs, City winning 6-3 at the Etihad in October 2022, with United running out 2-1 victors at Old Trafford in January 2023.
This year’s FA Cup final will be a historic affair, as Manchester’s two biggest clubs have never faced each other in the final before. Their last Wembley showdown was in August 2011, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s United defeated City 3-2 to claim the Community Shield.
United will take on their Manchester rivals City in the FA Cup final on Saturday, June 3. It’s the first ever time the showpiece event will take place in June, as it’s usually scheduled in May. Previous finals have taken place in March, April and August.
The 2020 final took place in August after it was delayed by the Covid pandemic. This season’s final is taking place later than usual due to the campaign being paused for the World Cup in Qatar, which was held between November and December 2022.
